They base their opinions on experience and common codes. They are not walking building code experts. Inspectors are human too, so it's hard to fault them if they make an error in judgment. If they don't have the necessary credentials than that is another bonus for you. The incompetent inspector, as you believe he is, has taken courses and has the credentials that the Province has given them as being competent in that field. If building inspectors can approve things that don't meet the building code than that is your biggest problem. If you're planning on suing someone you have to get as many of the facts/dates you can to prove your case against the people/organizations you plan on suing. So the builder and/or the inspectors didn't follow the procedures as set out in the building code?
